I used to be a resolution gal. Ahem. Let me clarify: I was an empty resolution gal. I would vow, “This is the year I will do such and such!” And as you can guess, inevitably I wouldn’t do it because I never made a plan to achieve all those lofty dreams and/or resolutions.
Did you know that one of the best ways to follow through on something is to write it down? In fact, 42% of people are more likely to achieve their goals if they simply take a minute to write them down. Of course, anyone who’s worth their weight would say, another surefire way to make a resolution a reality is to create an action plan to achieve it.
Now that we are several weeks into January, you may think it’s too late for resolutions. But if one of your unwritten or unspoken “resolution/bucket list/wanna-do-someday/goals” is to increase your proficiency as a speaker, it’s not too late!
If you’re reading this, chances are you already have interest in learning how to become a more effective communicator. So let me be the gal who pushes you off the cliff in 2016 to stop making empty resolutions and promises of “maybe I’ll do it next year” and take action in 2016 instead.
So, in the spirit of helping you make your dream of becoming a better communicator a reality, here are my top 3 reasons to invest in attending the SCORRE™ Conference.
Reason #1: When you spend money on something, you are more likely to use it.
I know it’s a big investment, because I attended as a student myself 10 years ago. At the time I had three young children, a traveling husband, and hadn’t worked “outside the home” for years. How could I justify the expense?
It was my secret dream to be a speaker and it was never going to happen sitting in my living room watching Teletubbies and Blues Clues. I needed to take positive action and begin to make it a reality. You can be sure that I wasn’t going to waste the time, money and effort it took to get me there!
When you invest in a program like SCORRE™, you will be more likely to change your communication and apply what you learned because you’ve made a monetary investment.
I can attest, the SCORRE™ Conference is worth every penny; I even wrote on my post conference evaluation that I would have paid more. I am the speaker and writer I am today because of the investment I made a decade ago.
Reason #2: The personal coaching and direct 1:1 feedback is priceless.
Sure, you could spend less to learn better communication in one of many online training programs. (We know, because we offer one of our own.) But when you are at home, watching a video or internet training (even if you had to pay for it) you will never get the same type of feedback and development as you will in person.
Despite the fact that nowadays we don’t have to leave our house to shop, learn, eat or watch anything we want, you simply can’t put a price tag on the value you get from in person, 1:1 coaching from a trained team of amazing, dedicated communicators.
In my book, live coaching will always be more valuable than solitary learning, no matter how advanced our society becomes.
Reason #3: The SCORRE™ method applies to every area of your life – not just speaking.
You can attend SCORRE™ to improve your skills in the boardroom, on the platform, or even behind the pulpit. We focus on speaking and presenting, but you will also become more effective at communicating in all its forms – from email to writing to leading meetings.
The SCORRE™ Conference is an investment that can change your life. It’s worth it. I’ll say it again – I am the speaker and writer I am today because I attended a decade ago.
I’d hate to see your dreams end up in the graveyard of uncompleted resolutions. Will you resign to move from resolver to planner and join me at SCORRE™ this May?
(P.S The Conference is held in Orlando…you could fulfill two dreams for the price of one and go to Disneyland!)
